Does anyone know where I can find plans for a marquetry donkey? I saw one in use the other day and loved it. I’ve seen them for sale online (oh, $7000, or so), and I’ve seen rough drawings of a simple bench and clamp without the saw. So, if anyone has, or knows where I can find, plans to make my own that would be great.
thanks,
kt

There are plans for a marquetry donkey in the book titled Marquetry by Pierre Ramond. ISBN 0-89236-685-0. There are also plans for a number of other fixtures and jigs. I have never made/used one so I can't tell you how good the plans are. This book is a bit pricey, $65 - 70 but it is an excellent resource.
Good Luck
You might want to ask this question over on, they are all veneer users.I hope this helps.Ron http://www.vacupress.com/forum/category-view.asp
Call me assinine, but "over on," ?, on another forum? Don't mean to be mulish, or bray on about it, but would like to know if there is a forum dedicated to such things.

Ken, I don't believe there is a forum dedicated to the use of and or construction of such an animal, marquetry donkey.
There are those over their that have seen and been around such a beast. Just ask and they will address you questions with pleasure.
Two of Americas greatest living marquetry artists Silos Kompf from western Massachusetts, and another renown gentleman Patrick Edwards, ( please forgive the spelling ) I'm out the door, and I know some else has the correct spelling, from San Diego.
Among the best in the country. Several others on the other forum have studied with Paul. I know Mr. Gray will be happy to discuss his time in S. Cal.

That's http://www.silaskopf.com and he does have a marquetry donkey or chevalet and some other type of marquetry saw as featured in Ramonds book he typically uses his Excalibur scroll saw. His studio is down the street from me. He just finished his 5th Steinway piano with as he calls it..."wallpaper"!

http://www.wpatrickedwards.com has plans and all the hardware (blade clamps, etc.) for about $500. You just supply the wood.
