platform bed for my son, need easy plan
Hi, I am trying to build a child bed for my 4 year old son. The house in charge(my wife) want a platform bed with side rail(solid side rail) and some drawer underneath the bed. But I only have hand tools and I am willing to invest on some power tool, but I am still missing a work table, table saw things like that. I want a sturdy bed using tenon and bolts, can anyone offer me a simple plan that I will go to home depot to have all the materials cut and build the rest at home. Is this workable??? please help.

I have done a number of platform beds over the years. Basically 2 types.
One is a series of plywood boxes, say 6, 3 on each side which together are the size of the mattress. In each box is a drawer. Height is you choice.
The other type is an egg crate frame with a central spine running the long way and four perpendicular pieces which notch in to the spine and make the egg crate. I usually make it ±12" high.
Everything is made from 3/4" birch veneer plywood. Not always bought from HD but sometimes.

I am interested on the 6 boxes type.
Thanks for the suggestion, I think it is very helpful. How do I connect them together? And what about the solid rail that prevent my four years old from dropping to either side of the bed? Should I build head board and end plus the sides extra then put them on top of these boxes? Do you by any chance have a plan to build these boxes and drawers inside? I knows I am asking a lot of question, please help.
The cad plans I have are for a double bed. Give me a couple of days and I'll modify it for a single bed.
There are a lot of pieces involved in this bed. You might want to go to a local lumber yard who might be more willing to do all the cutting for you.
Every time I had a piece of ply cut at HD the tearout was considerable.

Thanks for the help. Yes, I might head out to the lumber yard this time, as last time I use HD, the tearout is terrible and measurment is a bit out, anyway, very hard to control that. Thanks and looking forward for your help.
I've built a couple of simple platform beds. I don't have any plans but be sure to provide for ventilation under the mattress. I used 1/4" pegboard with a supporting frame.
I wouldn't mind seeing your plans either :) I've been thinking about a few different ways to create a platform bed and I like the idea of building the base out of separate "boxes". It would make it much easier to move and would let me build it in bits and pieces as I have the time.In my case, the platform would be going on carpet, so I'd need a way to make sure the six boxes were connected solidly. It also has to have the head end fit in between two built-in cabinets, which is why I can't use a standard bed frame - there's room for the mattress but no room on either side of the mattress.
