Please can anyone help identify this timber
If anyone can help me out I’d greatly appreciate it, I got hold of a mysterious slab of unknown timber, I’d like to know what it is half out of curiosity and half so I can research about any limitations when finishing.
That’s a no. 5 on the slab as i got it for scale before I cut it.
there’s a photo of the endgrain, live edge and shavings and finally one of it planed up.
if anyone with more experience than me has any idea what it is or could be I’d greatly appreciate it

First thing that popped into my head was Bubinga.
Ah yeah I’ve just googled that does look familiar, will have a look for ways to confirm
+1 on Bubinga. Garnet shellac worked very well as a finish on a past project. Be sure to test on scrap first ..
Thanks very much, il look into the finish
You said " timber" ...could you be in Australia or New Zealand? That could be a clue...
I’m in the U.K., I don’t think this is native to the U.K. but I have been wrong before
No idea myself but thank you for a useful description and good images of all the bits that are needed!
