Please Help Beginner with Armoire que…

I am trying to learn as much as possible about building an Armoire for a TV. I have been doing some research, and have begun drawing my own plans.
The depth is going to need to be at least 24″. My question is, what type of would should I use for the sides, which are going to be 78″ from top to bottom? Plywood or hardwood?? (I don’t know much about different types of wood).
Also, what type of wood should be used for the doors?
When is the appropriate time to begin staining? When it is entirely complete with the doors off?
Any responses would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

What do you mean what kind of wood for the doors? I typically make frame and panel doors- if you can use quartersawn for the rails and stiles even better, but not really necessary. With the 78" sides I would make two panels or you could use Plywood-which is available in many woods. I tend to apply finish when piece is done-with doors off. There are lots of books about making projects such as this- Taunton has one "Boxes ,Carcasses and drawers" or something like that. Anyway, have fun. Josh O.
