Hello all. We received this slab of wood as a gift for helping a friend. Can anyone identify its use and material? It is 82×44. We are having it made into a dining table
thanks for any and all help.

Its veneer, and likely was already a table top.
The middle of the panels are a burl. It's hard to know which species, as finished burl veneer tends to look the same. The outside edges look like riftsawn walnut. In between is a band, maybe a sandwich of holly, with holly dyed black in the middle of the sandwich.
Tell them to avoid sanding the top. They can easily send right through this veneer and ruin the piece.
Thank you so much!! He sanded the tape off the inlay and stopped. We are pleased.
