Please Help Price Yorkcraft Planer – Father in law passed away
Hi,
My father-in-law passed away a few years ago and his wife is starting the process of selling off his shop tools. He has a 15″ Yorkcraft planner, which has been hard to price. I don’t see a site for new Yorkcraft tools and also came up short on finding prior sales. I do see some planners that are similar that average between $2,400-$3,000 new. I have not been able to locate a model number.
I have it priced at $900 on FB marketplace. I want to check with everyone to see if that was a fair price. If you wanted to buy or were listing, what price would you set? We are not trying to get top dollar. Looking for a fair price and also for someone to be able to use the tool in their shop.
Thanks,
Brent

Today's equivalent is the Grizzly G1021Z which sells for $2045. Your asking price is roughly 50% of new, which is reasonable.

Thank you for the feedback! I am willing to go down a bit on the $900, so I should be okay. Thanks
What Mike said.
Most tools are painted and labeled by different brands, but are pretty identical under the hood. Grizzly is always a good comp for off brand tools.
Thanks!
That is what they sell for around here also in Eastern Canada.
I would consider $900 to be a fair price if the planer is lightly used. If more used, $750. If well used, and knives are dull, probably more like $600. The potential lack of spare parts and manufacturer support makes it less valuable than a used current brand name model. I have a shop full of machinery that I bought used; all were purchased for less than 50%, some for under 10% (that needed extensive work/rehab.)
Having said all that, just check what 15" used planers are going for, and price yours a bit lower so it will be one of the first to sell.
