Anyone know why there is such a large plenum on my tablesaw. I want to mount a router to the left side of the fence but the large cover to the space under the saw (the plenum) is in the way. Can I take this off and replace it with a flat sheet of plywood. What would be the consequences?

No plywood, for two reasons. 1. You don't want to restrict the air-flow into that space. 2. When you tilt the blade, the motor swings out and rests inside the area which the cover encloses. If you removed the cover and replaced it with plywood, you wouldn't be able to tilt the saw. Either way, not a good thing.
