Ya… I know I should have got a better saw but I am MORE than happy with it.
Not fine woodworking but just ripped some wood for a friend.. He was on the out feed side of the fence AND he was great! He held the wood PERFECT to the fence..
Nothing like when I had to ask one of my kids to come over and help!
I used a 1 inch Lenox blade.. Nothing fancy.. No carbide…
We ripped about 25 8X8X12 foot long really old ‘hard as heck’ OAK out in the driveway.. (Needed room to work because my shop is in a garage these days). Various thickness cuts using the fence that came with the saw.
Lets put it this way.. We had fun watching it rip away.. Not Perfect, but more than satisfactory results. I think alot had to do with that Lenox blade..
We had more fun when finished when we went for the few sips of O’l Gent Jack…
True story.. Just think I am saying that saw IS NOT JUNK! Lenox blade left some rough marks but a old long Jack took it off in one swipe..
Damn I wish I was 22 again! After using that Jack Plane! My arms hurt.. ALOT

I was looking at a Rikon 18-inch bandsaw set up in a Woodcraft store the other day and thought it looked pretty good. Prabably better than a Jet right next to it. What about it makes somebody think it isn't a decent saw?

Just some comments I got.. Nothing hateful BUT! LOL
"What about it makes somebody think it isn't a decent saw?.." Probably the old saw "You get what you pay for." forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)Another proud member of the "I Rocked With ToolDoc Club" .... :>)
Hey, Will, thanks for the report. Not too much out there yet on the Rikons. Sounds like your "ripping" was resawing, yes? That's a good test, for sure. Sounds like it was able to tension that big blade well enough to do the job, a good sign.

Yep! I HAD TWO 1 inch blades.....
I leave the tension off the blade when I leave the saw...
Guess what.. I started the saw without putting tension on! DANG! What a noise..
Takes that saw about a minute to stop! No damage to the saw (that I found yet) but blade teeth sure got a ding or two.. Someplace? but I guess I haven't found yet...
DUMB MOVE!
