MAPP gas works fine. Too hot and you'll burn through the copper. Go to a plumbing department anywhere and you'll see Otey solder in various ratios. Plumbing supply houses will have other brands, too.
You can't use 50/50 if it is for water, although, I know a few plumbers that use it when sweating in valves since it melts faster and flows better than 95/5. Yes, it's illegal but they figure that the amount of lead entering the water supply from the sweat joint of a few valves is minimal. Of course, I wouldn't allow them to use it in my house, then again, I don't have to since I did all my own plumbing, anyway.
That is terrible!!!!
Isn't this the same thing as charging for mortise and tenon joints but just doing butt joints? Or worse, using contact cement for veneer?
I've done a lot of plumbing and it isn't such a big deal to use 95/5 solder. Your plumbing buddies are Lame-O's.
