Hello there,
Is anyone using the new 2.25hp Triton by hand and not in the table? That is how I mostly plan on using it but all I seem to read about is its great function in the table.
Does it work good for mortising as this is what I plan on using it for. Are the included guide bushings and fence well made? I though I remember seeing a comment on how they are not that great a quality.
Prior to this I had planned on purchasing the Bosch 1617EVSPKE combo kit from Amazon (last week to be exact) which had the guide bushings and fence included but yesterday when I went to Amazon to order it their website was listing it as being discontinued by the manufacturer and it is no loner available! Man, you snooze you lose I guess. I should have ordered it last week!
Thanks.

Frank,
Coastaltool.com has the 1617EVSPK combo kit with the edge guide right now for $ 209. I don't think Bosch is discontinuing that model, but I could be wrong. I have both routers, but I use the Triton for my table and the Bosch for everything else. I even bought a 1618 D handle for dovetailing and I love it. Bushing attachment on the Triton is a little different, you can only use their bushings.
Hello Terry,
I noticed that Costal Tools lists the body of that router as being made of magnesium. I read in various threads that Bosch eventually replaced the mag body with aluminum due to the mag bodies developing rust. My shop is somewhat damp so I would be concerned about rust. I did send an email to Costal Tools to check if the body material is either mag or aluminum. If it is aluminum I will get it from them since that router kit has the edge guide included.
Thanks for the info!
Frank
Frank,
I did notice the same galvanic reaction in different ww publications so I sprayed both parts with Boeshield and have not had a problem. Mine are about four years old so I am sure they are magnesium.

Hello Terry,
I just ordered the router from Coastal this morning after they confirmed that the housing is indeed aluminum. I think Amazon meant that the kit with everything - fence and all the template guides - is discontinued. They still offer the plunge/fixed kit w/out the extras on their site.
Thanks again for your help!
Frank
Frank,
Isn't this forum great. Woodworkers helping each other. I have had good luck with Coastal Tool. Don't like Amazon.
