Is there a document somewhere that lists all of the markings and ratings for plywood? Like how do I know if a particular product is void free? Or no seams in the face veneer? And the true dimension?

You have to register to download the different technical documents, but registration is free and so are the documents for download.

Cool site! Thanks!
Do APA standards apply to cabinet grade and hardwood plywoods? I think the APA is generally concerned with construction grade products.
THe APA deals with softwood plywood.Hardwood plywood can have a number of cores and faces. Typically the hardwood plywood I have dealt with is graded A, B, 1, 2, 3 ,4. For example A1 would have an A face and a number one back. 4-4 would be a paint grade hardwood plywood with numerous fills. There are other grades in the industry. A good website is http://www.hpva.org/Another is at http://www.highlandhardwoods.com/hardwood-plywood.htmlMany companies will have proprietary grades made for them instead
If you need plywood guaranteed voids free, the only one I know is Broun zeel (not so sure of the spelling) the outside veneer is African mahogany, it is a marine grade, on the expensive side, with a great variety of thicknesses (metric) down to the aircraft size (2 mm ?) Great stuff.

Brunzeel is the proper spelling.

Hi Bryan ,
Plywood cores also have a grading system . Apple Ply is about as void free you can get for a multi plied panel , usually with a Maple face .
Another product often sells by the name of Armour Core , much of the on grade hardwood plywoods come with a layer of MDF or similar under the face of each side eliminating any core voids under the faces .
Lastly Baltic Birch or as we used to call it Fin Ply , in the old days it was one of the only products I ever held that said made in USSR .
good luck dusty
