I am a regular reader of this board, and occasional contributor. I have to weigh in here. I was reading a thread tonght(for the life of me can’t find it again) got kicked of the net. So now I am back.
What I have to say is this……………….
THIS IS A SAWDUST FORUM!!!!!!!!!!!! Not a political debate. You wanna talk politics go where they do that. Do Not defile this board with that crap. I have my beliefs, you have yours. Amen. You don’t like Dubbya? no problem, just don’t bring it here. I am not his fondest supporter, but I refuse to express that here. AS I SAID, THIS IS A SAWDUST FORUM. Please keep it that way.

What're ya sayin Eddie? I mean......you know, don't beat around the bush- Why not just come out and say it?
Dave,
I try not to be shy, but then I have shortcomings!

Thanks Dave,
I was just kinda p_____d off Had to get it off my chest

Seems to me there are better things to get angry and exercised about. You can spend your entire time here at Knots in the woodworking forums; but if you have any non-ww opinion you want to vent, just move on down the thread list to the Cafe. So, care to say why you are in such a twist about this?
They're not getting it, Ed-
Thanks, Dave,
I felt like an outcast until I read your post

All that noise because they simply didn't read the original post- Something akin to a lynch mob mentality- Classic- There's a lesson there.......
<<" All that noise because they simply didn't read the original post- Something akin to a lynch mob mentality.">>Well, I did read the original post (again) from Fast Eddie, and I am at a loss to understand your reference to the "lynch mob mentality" in the responses. given the intermperate nature of his post -- angry, caps, and exclamation points -- I thought the responses were patient and civil. I wish you would elaborate on your remark above concerning the lynch mob.
...and perhaps the lesson is:- "Don't start off-topic threads in the wrong forum, complaining about off-topic threads in the wrong forum"
You just make yourself look stupid and invite ridicule.
It probably isn't too clever to follow that by insulting someone who points out the rules, either.

There's a difference between humor and hostility.
I think we all read the first post. Perhaps Eddie didn't articulate his point clearly enough for us poor schlubs to properly apprehend.
In all fairness his remarks were by far the most intemperate and abusive of the lot. Nobody else has resorted to shouting and personal attacks. He also was doing the exact thing he objected to.
Everybody here is free to express their opinions in the appropriate forum, including you and Eddie especially, but they shouldn't expect everone else to automatically agree with them, even on woodworking subjects. If you are so insecure that you don't want your opinions commented upon, then maybe you might not want to post until you are able to withstand some give and take.
For my part, the lively dicussions with lots of different opinion are the only ones i'm interested in.

Oh yeah? Oh yeah? Well, I'll be in the Cafe, waitin for you- I'll be alone, so don't bring any of your friends-
If you want to post a thread about political issues then post it in the Cafe -- that's what the Cafe is for.
If you've been here for two years, it's about time you learned the rules!
IanDG
Why didn't you take a couple minutes to read my original post? It was about corrupting a sawdust factory posting, and eliminating political #### such as you from an honest discussion board where, I might add, you have no business being
But Eddie, that's what the Cafe is for: all the non-woodworking stuff that people want to chat about. If people want to waste their time talking about things they can't do anything about, where's the harm? Nobody's making you read it, are they? If you want things done your way and your way only, set up your own site.
Who made you king of the world? I thought that was my job....
Michael R.
On second thought, were you talking about introducing political discussions under other headings like General Discussions? In that case I agree that it's not very appropriate, but you didn't make that very clear in your original post. Plus, you did exactly what you are castigating others for. Wouldn't this dicussion be more approriate in the cafe?

Was your post about woodworking? -- why No, it wasn't, so what was it doing in General Discussion?
Obviously you need someone to tell you the rules because you don't seem bright enough to work them out for yourself.
you have no business being
Where's your gavel?
IanDG
Those of us that like to mix a little politics in with the sawdust and shavings do so in the Café, not the General forum.
If you don't care for it, don't read it.
As others have said Eddie, if you're going to raise non-woodworking topics like this, then raise them in the right place, i.e., The Cafe, and not in this General Discussion area. Jings, I've been darkening this site with my cantankerous presence for six or seven years and I learnt that bit of etiquette in the first week or two.
Anyway, I work 8- 13 hours a day, five or six days a week on furniture design and making subjects, so I like to piddle about at my hobbies at nights and weekends, so a bit of off-topic crap in The Cafe, along with rugby and its general debauchery on Saturdays and Sundays is just the ticket for me.
All work and no play would make Sgian a very dull boy, ha, ha-- ha, ha, ha. Slainte.
Eddie, you will never, ever get folks to stop talking about politics at Knots. If you want to try, your thread belongs in The Cafe not here in General Discussion. You will notice that The Cafe is permanently relegated to the bottom of the column on the left side. That makes it incredibly easy to ignore non-woodworking threads as long as nobody posts one in the wrong discussion area.
Also, you can designate any thread you want to "Ignore" (See "Rate My Interest" at the bottom of the right pane.)

Forestgirl,
I guess I goofed up, I was just putting up a simple opinion. I did not expect all the hostility that came back. You seem to be one of the level headed people here. thanks for the advice. I will be careful from now on and not post opinions.
Fasteddie
P S. I am not reading the thread anymore. don't need all that.
Those are words of wisdom. I'll stick to the ww discussions. That's why I came here to begin with.
What offends me is people who get offended reading what they don't have to read, all forums seem to have these oiks.
