Hello all,
I just finished building a workshop cabinet w/ casters for my mortising machine. I got the plans from “Wood” mag back about 1 1/2 ago. Anyway, the author says to use 2 coats of polyuthane on the exterior, and 3 coats on the top.
The cabinet is made out of mdo sides, mdf top, with oak for the frame support. Will poly stick to mdo? I am wondering because of the wax in the mdo surface?
I am not overly concerned with finish quality, just want to put a finish so my cabinet will stay nice looking longer.
Thanks Joe P

MDO is primarily intended for painting so it should readily accept poly. The face material, which is a glorified brown paper, is attached with an adhesive, I don't think there is any wax applied.
