Just remembered a great way to get polyurethane finish off my hands. I always get some on my fingers and then I am tacky (even more than usual) for a few hours. My old home ec teacher in H.S. – there was free food involved so don’t knock it- told us to scrub our hands with a little table salt after working with onions or garlic. It gets some of the smell off.
I tried it after finishing a project and it works in a pinch. Wet hands with warm water, grab the salt shaker and sprinkle away. Rub em together and rinse. The salt acts like sandpaper but it also dissolves in the water so you wont scratch the heck out of your mits.

You should consider using medical gloves (available in latex or non-latex). No clean up and no chemicals absorbed into the skin.
