I am trying to decide which of the two to spray for a topcoat for oak kitchen cabinets. have sprayed several samples in both in satin and gloss. We like the look of the polyacrylic blend in every case but the dealer keeps saying that the urethane is a better choice due to washability etc. Curious as to experiences of others. How much “protection” am I giving up if I use the blend? Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

I used a polyacrylic once. Every time it got wet (even months later) it became cloudy and soft. Try this on one of your sample pieces -- maybe they have improved since then. I would go polyurethane. Maybe try a hand rubbed urethane to see if you can get something closer to the look of the polyacrylic.
Good luck.
Peace.

*I think to give a good answer to how much protection, etc, you are going to get from a product, you have to name the exact product you are looking at. Not all poly acrylic blends are comparable, ditto on the oil base. Like asking how much mileage a truck gets. ;-)I've had very good results with General EF HP Poly, a poly/acrylic blend. Jeff Jewitt is selling Fuhr water-based finishes, some (or maybe all?) of which are KCMA (Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturer's Association). You might want to give Jeff a call.Dave
