I’m thinking of layering laquer sealer and then top coating with min-wax satin poly – any luck or horror stories?

If its lacquer sanding sealer -- don't do it. If its justs nitrocellulose lacquer (like a topcoat) its OK - but sand it with 320 first.
If it doubt, a barrier coat of dewaxed shellac will allow the poly to stick.
