Hi,
I’m attempting to duplicate a hand made porch rocker that my wife purchased for me on retirement. I’ve formed everything using a draw knife and various spoke shaves.
My problem is that there are some decorative features such as a knob on the top of the rear legs that I cannot duplicate, becuase of the tight radii, using the tools that I have.
Short of using regular carving gouges does anyone know how these tight curves are fashioned?

MP,
Any chance of posting a pic? It's difficult for me to envision the issue.

MP,
The legs, and their knobs, were probably turned on a lathe. Difficult to duplicate with hand tools, but you can approximate with rasps (or a Surform), or improvise with your own design.

Ray ,
Thanks for the reply.
These legs show definite tool marks and none of the tell tale signs of lathe work. They look round etc, but on close examination they are not round at all and are not even symetrical.
Unless someone knows for sure I think I will try carving gouges and finish up with the rasp as you suggeted.
Thanks again
