When I was a child, my father made me an art desk of sorts….very simple….and I would like to make one now but have no idea where to begin. It held a roll of shelf paper attached to two rollers, top and bottom, and had a pencil/crayon tray on the top. Very basic, but because I’m new to this, I’d feel more confident if I had some instructions/pattern, etc. I appreciate any and all help!!!

Nancy, I don't know of any specific plans, but I would suggest that you spend some time in your local library. Either in the "How-To" section of the bookstacks or the archives of magazines to which the library subscribes. Popular Mechanics, Family Woodworker, Home Craftsman type magazines would seem to be your best bet. High-end magazines such as Fine Woodworking probably would not be that productive.
Another thought, with Christmas approaching, the store shelves are flooded with home craftsman magazines offering Christmas gifts to make and you might find ideas located there.
Good luck.
Nancy, the way I would proceed would be to draw it as you remember it. As you sketch it out.. more and more details will come to you. Then take your sketch and transfer it to graph paper as you might imagine a draftsman would. Then dimension it using memory and other pieces of furniture as reference. When you have a good idea of what it looked like.. you'll have a good idea of how to build it. What remains is deciding on materials.. and making sawdust. It should be fun!
