I’m currently considering adding a portable dust collection system to my shop and wondered what experience people might have had with the same. For instance a system that has attachments for multiple power tools, (sanders, hand plane, routers,etc.).
As an example……Bosch have a Dust Extraction system, as does Festool. What if any advise can you share with me on this type of equipment?
Many thanks……JP

I have the Festool mid-sized extractor and love it. I plug any chip or dust producing hand-tool into the extractor power source and ALL dust is gone! Belt sander, ROS, router, etc.
The variable vacuum is valuable for use with sanders so you don;t "suck" the sander to the work.

Ditto Frosty. Festool Vacs are the best and they are generally quiter than the tool they are attached to.
And HEPA rated.
Work Safe, Count to 10 when your done for the day !!

I hate the term "Extractor" but I guess I'll have to live with it. I also forgot to mention that the hose alone is almost worth the price of admission: it seems to know just how you want to coil it w/o fighting.Frosty"I sometimes think we consider the good fortune of the early bird and overlook the bad fortune of the early worm." Thanks Bruce............I can't wait to get on board!JP
Thanks FrostirDoes this apply only to Festool equipment?
I don't know. But - I have never heard anyone else refer to variable suction or an easy handling hose.Frosty"I sometimes think we consider the good fortune of the early bird and overlook the bad fortune of the early worm." FDR - 1922
Thanks again..........JP
I have two gated DC ports at my workbench with 4" x 2.5" reducers. Depending on what I'm doing, I can connect a shop vac hose (either a 2.5" or 1.25") to whatever tool I need.
It isn't perfect, but it's surprisingly effective and whatever isn't collected is easily vacuumed up when I finish an operation.
These pictures are a couple of years old and the Makita ROS has been replaced by a DeWalt. It has an "odd ball" hose connection and I had to get a special hose for it.
