Presently I am in the market for a new 10″ portable bench saw in order to utilize my stacked dado blade set.
I am currently using my 8″ Makita bench saw, but with the blade cover underneath it is not possible to use the above.
My question is what is the best unit? Porter Cable, Bosch, DeWalt, Skill, Craftsman, Rigid?
I would appreciate hearing from fellow woodworkers who may have one of the above, as I take excellent care of my tools, I will no doubt have it for a considerable amount of time.
Thanking you in advance.

I have a Craftsman 10" portable table saw and hate it. FYI the arbor was too large (or small I forget) to install the dado head cutter I bought. Also, the mitre slots are too small (or large) for any of the accessories that I tried. The fence is horrible and never squares up- I have to do it manually. I am in the market for a new larger saw.
Dear Mark.
Thank you for your reply, I will delete the Craftsman unit from my list.
I appreciate the time that you took to review my request and your subsequent message.

Aren't the arbor shafts on most or all of the portable benchtops too short for a dado blade? I know I've seen the, "how do I," and "what can I do about," questions concerning this issue on the forums.
Don
Dear Don:
You are correct as the inside guard will only allow me to install the two outside cutters and not the chippers.
I will have to further review a better bench saw with a larger arbor and throat opening.
Thank you for your reply.

George: If your using a Makita saw model 2708 (now discontinued) you can get a dado insert for that saw. just call any makita distributor and they should be able to get it for you Good luck
Dear Ben.
Thank you for your reply, I will contact my local Home Hardware location and have them order the part for me.
Thanking you for your advice.

It depends on how much portability you need, but if the moving around is only occasional, you might also consider the Ryobi BT3100 (I wouldn't want to rough handle it each day in a pickup). It weighs only about 106 pounds with stand, and handles a full dado set (6") easily. Also has the best rip fence of the bunch, from what I've heard (never used the other saws, but my BT3000's has always been dead on). The SMT may take some getting used to, but it's far superior to the cheap standard miter gages that you find with other ordinary saws. For more info, check out the Ryobi Forum and Sam Conder's Ryobi BT3K Forum

Hi Winch
I have the Bosch and have not regretted it since I bought it a year and a half ago. It has a longer arbour than most other models but I'm not sure of the exact capacity. Fence is great. Motor handles 3/4 plywood with no problem. I have even ripped many two by tens; with a ripping blade, easy. That's another nice feature: the locking arbour. Change blades in a minute with a little practice. If you use it in your shop, I would recommend a lumber and plywood base to make it more stable. Seems far superior to the DeWalt. All of the reviews I've read favour the Bosch.
Good luck with your buy.

Dear Plinthe.
Thank you for your reply, I have reviewed this unit at my local Home Depot, Store, it certainly looks extremely well built and rock solid.
As for the base, I presently have an older Sears 10" Radial Arm Saw on a sturdy mobile steel frame and could use the same for the Bosch unit, the casters are 3.5" and lockable.
Thanking you again for your input and time to reply to my question.
