Porter Cable 325 Mag Circular saw
I am considering purchasing this saw for use with a guide system for sheet goods;have any of you had experience with this saw? I am particularly interested in the dust collection capabiliites (I would attach a vac). Also, I understand there has been a recall of this saw; anyone know why? Thanks for any experiences you can share.

We talked in the other thread, but I think the recall had to do with the blade guard not always returning the way it should. I am pretty sure this is a simple fix, probably involving the replacement of a spring.

I have the left blade version and the dust collection is pretty good. I have five saws and the PC is my favorite, hands down. I can't swear to it but I think the recall is the same thing that led to the recall on my Bosh; the return spring was a little too weak to consistantly overcome a shroud full of sawdust on the return.
The fix for my Bosh was to order the free replacement spring kit from their web site and spend five minutes swapping it out. One thing you can rest easy about with any recall is that the saw you buy from a retailer today has been fixed or it wouldn't be on the shelf.
The PC Mag circular saws have a Safety Recall Notice.

to find out what serial numbers are affected.
I never did have a problem with it sticking, but I took mine to the local repair facility to have the guard replaced. Since it was a recall there is no charge for the fix. The only downside is that I am without the saw for about two weeks.
As for the dust collection I think it is very poor. I have tried both my dust collector and and shop vac and I still get a lot of saw dust everywhere.

The PC Mag 325 is the best overall circular for a guide system
and the same time can be used for free hand cuts.
1. Very ergonomic design that allows you to cross cut a piece of plywood. (48")
2. Average dust collection capabilities that you can increase to 99% + with a
simple dust shield.
3. Powerful motor.
4. $10.00 to $15.00 blades.
5. Electric brake.
And all that for $149.00 Same saw in EU goes for 2-3 times the asking price.
Good luck.

Thanks Dino. I am easing from Festool into one of your systems. Festool attracted me initially through the concept of guide system + dust collection but from the posts I have seen the saw itself should be more considering the premium price. I have seen your dust shield and not sure I understand it completely but if one can get 99% of the dust then that is good enough for me.

I think the price for the Festool saw is more than fair for what you get. Same goes for the PC MAG 325 and the HILTI.
I use them all and each one offers unique advantages. You can go with any saw on the ez and add more saws if you need any more features. Some people use 5 and 6 saws with the same system.
From the cordless Makita to the Makita 16" monster.
Good luck.

I have the 325 Mag Alex, and use it on the SmartGuide with the DDCA (Dino Dust Collection Adapter). I had to use the saw the other day without the vacuum attached and the difference is incredible. That little piece of Lexan does make a tremendous difference...
Great saw, you won't be sorry!
