Porter Cable 333VS bearing question
Like me, it’s got some years on it. Lately it’s been sounding like an old diesel, so I’m guessing one (or more) of the three (IIRC) bearings has failed. Is this one of those ‘replace ’em all’ jobs, or is one bearing most likely the culprit.
Thanks!

Ed,
Not sure how many bearings are in this tool , but I just had mine repaired after many , many hard years of use. They replaced whatever bearings were in there at a cost of $50.00, which included labor. Best repair money I've ever spent. I would assume that if there is more than one bearing in there then they all ware relatively evenly and that it would probably be wise to replace them all.

Hi,
I replaced my lower bearing in my PC333 about two months ago. First I took apart my OS to see what was the problem, pulled the armature out and discovered that the bottom bearing was frozen. The repair shop will do the same thing and charge you $50 just to open the unit up and tell you "yup, the bearing is bad."
I was able to order the bearing from a local tool repair shop which only cost several dollars and was very simple to install. (You have to find the right sized socket to "tap" the bearing on the shaft.)
You can go to Porter Cable's web site and get the part numbers and repair manuals to make sure you install the counter weight correctly.
Anyway my old OS works as good as new, also when you are inside the unit be sure to check the brushes and replace those if they are getting a little short.
Jim
Thank You!
LOL, you obviously don't have Pennsylvania Dutch ancestry ;-) .
ROTFLMHO you, sir, never met my grandfather or my mother for that matter, and you've certainly never stuck foot in my mother's house or barn. ;-)
