Just trying out ideas and was wondering if anybody had used the Porter Cable lock mortiser? I was thinking it might be a great was do do deep mortises for door construction and other places that require a very sturdy mortise and tenon joint. Was curious as to how presise the tool is.
Thanks

Troy,
While it does a good job as a lock mortiser, the bit is too long and flexes to much for any joint work.
Anyway it is not a cheep tool to purchase.

Thanks thats what I was afraid of.Troy
It's a beautiful machine for what it was designed for--door lock mortising--and when adjusted properly, it can be very accurate.
However, the clamping mechanism is so long that you could not do a mortise close to the end of a board. Also it is a self-centering clamp, so any mortise that is off center will take some extra thought. Any deep mortise less than 1/2" wide cannot be done.
If you do door locks, it's indespensible. Otherwise, it's an $1100 shop toy.

Thanks, Looks like the tool is not the right tool for what I want. I did like the idea of being able to cut a very deep mortise with out to much trouble.Troy
