I recently purchased a Porter Cable dovetail jig. Its is not the Omni-Jig, but rather the 12 inch jig that sells for about $100.00. The jig came with a 1/2″ half blind templet.
I need help to get this thing set-up. I have read the directions and have made more attempts at a joint then I would like to think about. Does any one have any experience with this jig? I would be grateful for any advise I could get.
Thanks

I found this very helpful in setting up mine. http://pages.prodigy.net/jack.loganbill/pc4112.htm

Thanks for the site. It looks very promising. I will be working with the jig later tonight. I will try the ideas presented there.
Have you tried a templete guide bearing vs. a guide bushing? Just curious.
Not sure what the difference is myself. I think the guide bushing came in the box on my jig and if I remember correctly I had to return it as it was mis-machined and was a verry tight fit in the fingers. The key things I have found to give the best results are:
1. Properly seat both pieces in the Jig..... it's easy to get a piece slightly out of alignment, watch sawdust etc. on subsequent pieces.
2. Depth of cut..... will tighten or loosen joint.
3. Keep drawer dimensions in 7/8" increments........ Gives centered pins on tops and bottoms.
All this is not as complicated as it seems, when I set up the jig I use scrap plywood ripped ripped to the height of the drawer to test the depth of cut. I make slight adjustments to get it dialed in, once i'm happy with the fit the jig is set to do as many pieces as I want. Also make sure to use other pieces of stock at the opposite ends of the clamping bars to improve the grip of the bars

Thanks for the advise. I am a relative newcomer to the confusing world of woodworking. I do enjoy it. However, it can be a challenge.
Thanks again
A guide bearing on the dovetail bit doesn't work since the bit would be way too long if the bearing were to engage the template. IMHO this would be the far better way to go tho.
Perhaps some energetic soul has doubled up the template or put on some sort of extender.Windy Wood

Jrowland gave you just about all there is to correct except depth of cut. I have the cheaper foreign model but it is the same design. Raise or lower the bit...align corectly on set up...set depth to accomodate your router base. I also changed out the collar. Of course I still keep some sawdust and glue around to fill in the mistakes...:)
