I’ve made a top for my first real router table, and I’m about to tackle the crucial step of routing and cutting out the rectangle for a Woodpecker aluminum insert plate. I have been intending to put the plate in the center of the tabletop, but I know that some woodworkers prefer to have it off center. What are the advantages of an off-center router plate insert?

If you have a 24" deep table and you put the insert in the center then you only have less than 10" of adjustment or so. If you mount the off center then you can increase the amout of adjustment. That being said I rarely move my fence more than 6" away from the router bit.
That would depend on what kind of fence and work you plan on doing. I just bought one of these

and had to modify my tabletop to accept it. Works well though.

I guess it depends. What is your fence? I have the woodpecker PRL and used the incra LS fence. I made my router table from norms plans just made the top bigger (wider) to allow for the lS fence. I then put in a sliding track to allow for a miter slide to pass close by. The advantage of the extra table top is stability downside is real estate it will occupy in the shop. Here is mine before I added the slide bar into the table. It's now about 3" off the edge of the plate. My top is two pieces of 3/4" mdf glued and trimmed in WO covered with formica.
If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it.
And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
Showoff! :-)
I love that table.

Thanks. The pretty part my wife did (glass). Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.
you should replace the garage door glass with stained glass w/ tools like that on the table. That'd be awsome
Ductape can fix EVERYTHING!!!
I wish I still had that house! I spent a lot of money getting that garage just right. New lighting every were. I ran 220 to all my tools. I coated the floor with the nice rustoleum coating and then my plant I was working at folded and I had to move to the midwest. Now that glass is someone elses. Oh well could have been worse I could have not found another job! Look on the bright side. Take care.Government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it.
