I tried to post some good? pics of a small piece and had poor results.
Sometimes I just want to show the size or shape of something and it doesn’t matter if the pic is not clear. This however was about finish and I couldn’t get it clear.
I tried a few things. I put the camera on macro. Went to more memory. Then I cropped the photo to bring down the bites. I backed up a little to get the object smaller too. When I would go to the pic on the post it would be really large and out of focus. Didn’t show the finish well at all.
What am I doing wrong? The suject was your favorite I think. Here’s a example
It is 101 kb

Soften up the lighting. (less)
Use fill or red eye flash.
Add more light and soften it with a piece of onion or velum paper.

David,
It looks like you picture is just out of focus or your hand was shaking.
A few questions.
Does the picture appear ok before you post?
Did you use a tripod?
Have you cleaned the lens?
What is the settings on your camera? ie. are you shooting a fine res, med res, low res?
Most 1 mega pixal cameras generate a large file size. My Nikon 950 produces a 600K to 800K image in the fine res mode. When I download the image to my computer I use a program called Herme Graphics to reduce the file size. You can do this with any graphic program by opening the file and "save as" as a jpeg. somewhere in the save dialog box will be a button or a tab for details on the file. You can adjust the jpeg quality factor and reduce the file size. If you reduce the file to much it will appear grainy. You will need to experiment to find the right balance, (file size versus quality).
I think the image however is due to a camera problem not a image file size problem.
Hope this helps.
Enjoy,
Len
The most important thing when taking photos is to have very good lighting. If the camera has little light to work with, most will slow down the shutter speed to expose the picture longer. When that happens there is a greater chance of you moving the camera slightly and blurring the picture.
So use more light.
You can also get a better exposure using a tripod of some sort, then using the camera's timer to delay the shutter a few seconds. When YOU push the shutter button you wiggle the camera a little. If you use the delay you won't be touching the camera when the shutter clicks.
So use a tripod and the camera's delay shutter.
Many digital cameras have white balance settings. You can set them to correct the exposure depending on the type of lights you are using. There is usually a setting for daylight (outdoor shots), flourescent, incandescent, and sometimes for moonlight. Try to set the camera for the right type of lighting you are using.
Set the white balance.
Lastly, be sure you know your camera's focal distance limits. Trying to get a closeup macro shot usually requires setting the camera into "macro" mode. Even then the closest you'll be able to focus should be listed in your manual. If it claims your minimum focal distance is 6", then any shots you try to take closer than that (>6") will be out-of-focus. When you get close to an object you often block much of the light from it. See lighting comments above.
Don't get too close.
Hope that helps.

Looks like camera shake to me .Take a look at the ruler I think I can see double without drinking! My guess is that the camera is setting too low a shutter speed.Use more light, but diffuse it. Otherwise it may be within the minimum focal distance. In that case back off or switch to macro mode if your camera has that facility.Note that in macro the depth of focus will be shallow
I changed a few things. Here goes!
David,
Your latests photo looks good to me. The finish on your workbench looks more like some of my work. I'm still struggling with my turning, but I'm sure it's like the rest - it just takes lots of practice.

I'm not sure but i think the only way to get good photos for you to see is to have my own website that you would visit.
When I view these pics before I post them they look fine. I can blow them up to fill the whole screen and they look great. When I view them on the post they look blury. I don't know?
The photo posted is great! Really sharp. Now it is Image size and screen size to deal with. One way may be to use an e-mail program then save the attchment and post that.Seems like these progs have a compress option. But there ,I am a Luddite and have yet to master posting pix!The only digits I count are mine at the end of every day!Maybe someone else reading this could jump inand help out.
