In “More Finishes and Finishing Techniques–The Best of Fine Woodworking” two articles make reference to power buffing with automotive glazes, specifically Meguiars Mirror Glaze #1. However, aside from one reference to a “high speed buffer” neither article gives any specifics on the buffers used. Would appreciate input regarding best buffers for woodworking applications, for example, wheel diameter, variable or fixed speed and if fixed what speed, pneumatic versus electric, etc. Thanks in advance for any help provided.

I use a 7 year old Makita -- which has two speeds, 2000 and 3800. The newer model has a variable speed and it goes fro 179.00-199.00. Porter Cable, Dewalt and Black and Decker also have similar models which are sold as right angle "polishers/sanders".
I dont have any experience with the pneumatics.
I use 3Ms lambs wool bonnets which I buy at auto body stores. Buy an arbor adaptor for the polisher when you buy these. You can also use foam bonnets - but I dont get as good results from them. But thats just me, others swear by them.
