I have a smallish woodshop with a certain amount of three phase equipment. My shaper is much stronger than I am so it seems like a good idea to get a power feeder. The shaper is a 5 hp 3phase delta. Any suggestions or links to threads on the subject? I couldn’t find any. Also i’m interested in a powerfeeder for resawing on an 18″ rikon bandsaw. Thanks for the suggestions.

Yeah I have been thinking the exact same thing. I really don't know all that much about them, but there is a good article on here that I read that discusses shaping and powerfeeders. Hopefully someone with more experience will respond and enlighten us both.
Hi Luke ,
Imo get a 1hp at least and at least 3 tires or wheels . Get an extra base for your Band saw and maybe one for your TS I have an older Holz that runs on 115v single phase . The power feeder is real easy to get used to , it takes much of the work of pushing and pulling out of the equation . Heck I could go answer the phone while running a piece of molding with an outfeed support , that is if I could hear the phone ring , lol !
good luck dusty

hi, I have 3ph also and run a 4 wheel Univer feeder on the shaper. I also recommend the Steff-Maggi 2048 4 wheel 8 speed feeder. Great value and less than the Univer. There are a number of dealers around for the Steff. I got the Univer from Martin. They list them all on the exfactory Factory new website at http://www.factorynew.com The feeder is a great thing to have on a shaper. If you can find a good used Holzher feeder, get it. New I think they can run close to $3k.I've seen them go at auctions for a fraction of that.
Bandsaw power feeders can get pricey. I think Steff Maggi makes one, and also Grizzly has one for less money. Pretty sure Laguna has one also.
take care, John
I have had a shaper for a number of years and always fed it by hand while holding on for dear life. I just got a 1 hp delta 4 wheel and it is a completely different experience. Your mouldings are the same profile the full length of the board, your raised panels do not have cutter marks and you can stand off to the side and not have to be concerned about getting hit with a panel flying at who knows what speed. Check the Bridgewood site as I had considered them prior to finding a used Delta at about half the cost. Good luck
Brian
Thanks for the input. Can't wait to get a feeder or two into the shop.
