All ,
Two days ago I was cross cutting a piece of 6/4 Oak that was about 5″ wide on the RAS . When I was about half way through the saw acted like it struck metal and I saw what looked like a spark and then all the lights went off in the shop .As the blade was slowing down much noise was coming from the now wobbling blade . I thought my saw died in action .
What actually happened was a Crow got into a substation in my area and shorted out close to 4,000 people . What happened was when the power went off since the blade was under a load in the middle of a cut the nut on the blade loosened and the blade was wobbling about , I thought the guts had gone south but I inspected the blade and nut and arbor , put it back on and an hour later when the power came back on all is well .
That was a first in 30 years for me , quite an eye opener

You are fortunate that your tools survived to work another day ...and so did you. JL

Dusty dealt with this due to a power outage...some people are distracted installing their blades on the arbour, and then have to deal with a similar situation, because the face plates, blades and the retaining nut were installed crooked, and therefore loose. JL
JL ,
Luck , in my case maybe ,timing , who knows . It felt like the arbor shaft had sheared off and the blade and arbor nut were float / wobbling freely .
freak thing to happen for sure

Luck, timing, the writing on the wall...whatever it is, I am glad you are here to beat this around after the fact. JL
Dear Old,
You know, what comes to mind is whether or not i would of had the presence of mind to turn the machine "off" so that it didn't light up when the power came back on. I guess a magnetic switch would prevent it, but a lot of RAS's have mechanical switches. glad all was well................. except for the crow.............

J ,
The first thing I did after a quick inventory was un plug the cord from the wall . I had already flipped the switch off .
You are better than me!John
