I am looking at buying a Powermatic 26 Shaper at an auction this weekend and am wondering if anyone can tell me anything about these units. Do the have interchangeable spindles and how amy hp are they ussually. I am looking at a shper as opposed to going with a 3 hp router table set up. I was wondering if this machine might be a good option.

KC ,
I have an older PM 26 shaper and have owned it for about 20 years or so it was well used when I got it .
Mine has a 3hp single phase 220 motor and a Holz power feeder on it .
It is a real work horse and is very smooth running , mine has one of those smallish belts that looks as though it wouldn't spin it , but it does .
Mine has a 1" spindle , not sure about interchangeable spindles , nor that you would really need to change sizes . These machines will do so much more than a router there is no comparason .
Heres a look at the beast
good luck at the auction dusty
