I’m considering buying a powermatic 6 inch joiner. The knives for the joiner are not the traditional knives, but are double sided and have notches/holes that line up protrusions on the cutter head, supposedly to make them easier to set. Anyone have recommendations on this joiner or on another joiner? I currently have an 12 yr old bridgewood joiner and the fence has always been problematic.

The PM54a is a really nice 6" jointer, but's it's squarely in the price range of several really nice 8" jointers from Grizzly, Sunhill, Yorkcraft, Woodtek, Bridgewood and others. Grizzly and GI also have nice 6" for less than the PM...Griz offers one with upgraded cutters.
Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately I don't have the room for an 8 inch jointer. My 10 year old Bridgewood has a fence that has always been problematic to keep square so I am looking for an upgrade.
At risk of sounding like a pest, the PM 54a 6" machine is 66" long...about the longest of the 6 inchers. Many of the 8 inchers are within a couple of inches of that, so there's very little difference in length. The Sunhill and Yorkcraft are both 72" long, the Woodtek is 67" long. Sorry if you're already aware, but just wanted to be sure.
Not a pest. That's useful to know.
