Just recieved my new Powermatic 66 from Amazon yesterday and I am less than impressed. There are many problems with this shipment. Yet to see how Amazon and Powermatic will deal with the issues this saw has.
Of greatest concern is that there seems to be play where the front trunnion and center trunnion meet. With the tilt wheel adjusted to 0 degrees the front of the center trunnion lifts or can be lifting by hand with the height adjustment wheel. If anyone had an experience like this please let me know what the problem is. I will post a report on my findings and list the problems this saw has after these issues are delt with. Thanks, JP

I feel for your problems with your PM66. IMO I would never purchase something that big from the internet. why didn't you go you your local Powermatic dealer? IMO, the money you saved ( if you want to call it a savings) was just eliminated by the problems of shipping by Amazon. the few bucks is not worth the problems your having with a great piece of machinery. So, good luck getting your PM66 fixed or replaced , hope you don.t have too much down time. Time is money.
The savings was considerable. Somewhere in the neighborhood of $300.00. I usually do buy local to support small business but the dealers near to me did not impress me in at all. Most of the problems are manufacture issues that could have easily occured from a local purchase as well. Thanks for your wishes of a speedy recovery. JP
I echo the comments about buying locally not because it supports the local dealers but because on major items like yours, a local dealer will take it back or replace it. I have had too many power tools go bad and was very happy to be able to return them to my local Woodcraft. A $300 savings is considerable; I haven't found Amazon to offer that much of a discount generally.
It took Powermatic 4 tries about 6 years ago to get me a saw that was close to right. It that time I have dismanteled it and had many parts re-machined, and I got the new one piece arbor. Now my PM66 is pretty damn accurate.
Any factory that has dirt floors and wasn't worth $1 million to Delta before Walter Meier Holding purchased them kinda makes you wonder.
Even more so, WMH paid something like $8 million for them if memory serves me correct.

That must be very frustrating. I'm sorry to hear it, because I've had a PM-66 for six years and haven't any idea what the problem you've described might be. From the sound of it, I wouldn't be surprized if you discovered shipping damage as the cause -- possibly a broken casting as if it had dropped from a fork lift or something. Don't for a minute accept it as your problem (other than having to put up with the frustration and grief). I bught mine over the phone from out of state and never had a problem. That machine should be perfect!
"...possibly a broken casting as if it had dropped from a fork lift or something."Jim,According to his profile, Jay is in New Jersey. I seem to recall stories about expensive items "falling off of a truck" in New Jersey - for some reason, the name Soprano springs to mind...-Jazzdogg-
Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right.
Hey Jazzdog,
I lived in NJ for 44 of my 45 years, the 'fell off truck' expression would imply that the item was stolen :-)
Best wishes
I purchased my PM66 through amazon and had a good experience. What you are describing is unacceptable and I would really hold PMs feet to the fire. They have plenty of competition these days and should know better.
Good Luck!
John
