I am considering a Powermatic 8″ jointer. One dealer has a model from last year he calls a PM-8, the other dealer has what he calls a PJ 882. When I look them up on the Powermatic website they both have the same stock number. Is there any difference, and would I be better to buy the PJ 882 versus the older model?

Hi Jack,
Sorry for the late reply but I have a feeling we're not going to be of much help anyway. Besides what we publish in our magazine tool reviews, we make it a policy not to review or recommend tools in Ask The Experts. So I can't really speak to which one you should order.
However, to confuse you even more, we reviewed Powermatic's 8-in. jointer model number "60B" in 2005. I was able to find that for sale online from a few retailers.
After a quick look at Powermatic's Web site, the 60B appears to cost less than the PJ882, but it also has a smaller footprint, shorter bed, a fewer features.
Finally, "PM-8" might just be shorthand for Powermatic 8-in. jointer and not actually be the model number.
Does that get you anywhere?
