We have a Powermatic #26 shaper and purchased a #6289305 1/2″ router bit adapter. If anyone has one of these adapters, how does this attach to the spindle? And also how does the bit get tightened in it? we have had this shaper for a while and it works great, but want to use router bits in it now. The #26 looks exactly like the #27 shaper and this adapter is for a #27. Am I missing something?
Thanks, Ken

Hi Ken,
I have a Model 26 . I purchaced an after market 1/2 in. Router bit holder and it is held in place by the threaded rod going thru the quill that would normally hold in the stub shaft. My router bit holder is threaded in the bottom to receive the threaded rod and it has the small nub of steel that fits into the keyway on the collar of the quill.
Use two wrenches on the holder;one on the shaft and one on the cone shaped part . I usually have to remove the table inserts to get the wrench on the shaft . Because of this I usually just use apiece of scrap wood for a fence clamped to the table .

Dave, thanks for the reply.
My adapter has a threaded hole, but the threads are coarse and the threaded rod that comes thru the quill is fine thread. Also the holder does not have the usual nut to tighten down the bit. This is a Powermatic part, (it's listed as an accessory for the #27 shaper), but it does not make sense.
Thanks, Ken
Hey Ken,
I went to the Powermatic web site , but it wasn't'y any help. I did find a part #6028024 for the 1/2 in. Router bit adapter. "?" ! A picture was not available . Regardless the threads don't match , I imagine you have already thought of possible solutions . Can you post a picture? My #26 is about 20 yrs. old and I bought the adapter from a place called EAGLE AMERICA near where I live here in Ohio. I believe they have web site ,they sell router bits. I don't think it cost much more than 25-30 bucks.
How does the holder work , if it doesn't have "the usual nut"?
Where are you located?
DAVE
