I have 2 questions regarding pre finished ply.
I’m wondering if anyone makes “good on one side” pre finished maple ply.
I have looked a little, but haven’t seen any.
What would be the best way to add color to it? or is it even possible?
Thanks.
Bob

I have never been fortunate enough to use pre finished although I am dying to. I would think it would be very difficult to add color to it due to the baked on clear finish.

Hey Bob,
I am not sure wha you mean by good oneside. They do make a ply that is finished one side the other side is a "B" side still maple, cherry or what ever just not finished. Here in nj it is available from a supllier by the name of Roland and Roland available in 1/4, 1/2, and also 3/4
bob,
yes they make it, and i have used it several times. i get mine from a supplier called atlantic plywood. (in Rhode Island) but if you google it, make some calls, youll find a supplier.
great time saver for cabinet carcases. Sheets are coated with laquer at the factory, and to me is worth the extra $$. comes in a lot of species finished one side, or both in all thickneses. Just pay attention to the core material of the product. Some core material may not serve your application.

Thanks for the reply Joe. I'm also in RI. Where is Atlantic Plywood located. Do you recall what you paid for 3/4 prefinished on one side Maple? Do they sell to the little guys?Have you ever tried to color it?Thanks.
Bob
Coloring prefinished plywood is not that difficult. What you need to do is spray on a lacquer based glaze coat. Furniture factories do it all the time. Mohawk make a whole variety of colors. It is just like spraying lacquer.
Down by me, there's only one place to get it... and it's at a plywood wholesaler... They don't want to get involved with piecework customers. :-(Tom Iovino
