Preserving blue color when finishing colorado blue pine
I am experimenting, so far unsuccessfully, with applying finish to colorado blue pine. I have made some decorative boxes with blue pine lids that makes each box unique. Unfortunately most of my usual finishes like linseed oils or varnishes, even Watco, turn the delicate blue areas a dull gray. Has anyone found a finish that preserves and protects the blue coloration?

Blue Wood
I've never worked with that wood but I would try sealing and finishing the wood with a water clear NC lacquer. I guess a waterborne finish would have the same result sealing in the color but I never liked working with the acrylics.

Shellac
Dewaxed shellac (zissners shellac sanding sealer) is worth a try.
I'm not familiar with blue pine. Is the blue natural to the wood or is it the blue fungal growth that spruces and pines are prone to after cutting?
