Short story: Will Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3 work over a linseed-based sealer?
Long story: We have 2-story front porch built of spruce. After finishing construction, the contractor recommended that we apply a linseed-based sealer and wait 2 weeks before priming and painting.
We’ve applied a coat of the sealer two weeks ago. We’re ready to prime. Of course, the spruce has more than a few knots, so we’ve started by spot-priming the knots with Zinsser’s shellac-based B-I-N primer.
After the spot-priming, I plan to apply 2 coats of Zinsser Bulls Eye 1-2-3. (I will then apply 2 coats of exterior latex paint.)
The web site that describes this sealer is:

Our problem: we’ve since received conflicting advice about whether or not a primer will even work with this sealer. Am I on the right track–will primer stick sufficiently to the linseed-impregnated spruce?
Thanks and regards,
Marc.

The Zinsser is designed to work over previously painted surfaces, so I don't think there will be a problem over the sealer, which doesn't even claim to seal very much.
Talk to Zinser I think that Cover Stain which is a fast drying oil based primer /sealer might be a better choice. It is ok to use it under water based top coats.I feel that the hold out will be better. We prime all skylights, conservatories and windows before installation, with it with great sucess.
