Problems fitting CBN wheels to Rikon grinder

I’ve had a Rikon Model 80-805 slow speed grinder for a few years. Recently, I bought a couple of CBN wheels of different grits for it and was unpleasantly surprised to find that both wheels — one from Rikon and one from Wood River — are manufactured with center holes that are too tight for the shaft (which is bang on 0.625″). One could be banged on with a rubber mallet, the other would only go as far as the threaded section of the shaft. As best I can tell, the center holes are closer to 0.621 or so. Have other people run into this and what’s the best way to fix it? I had no issue with conventional grinding wheels, which seem to have more friendly center holes.

I have a Rikon slow speed 8” 1/2 HP grinder that my wife purchased a few years ago (don’t recall the model number). I got my CBN wheel and Kodiak sharpening system for doing woodturning tools from Wood Turners Wonders and it fit just fine. I had a need at one point to talk to a person and left a voice mail and they called me back a day later. You might want to give them a call to discuss.

Thanks. They had a nice video about installing the wheels and it mentioned cleaning the shaft as it turns with some medium grit sandpaper to remove old deposits (from the stone wheel, I guess). I tried that and it worked. I was surprised how much had to be removed though. They recommended 320; I found I had to go down to 180 to get it done. Anyway, problem solved.
You are most welcome. Glad to hear you resolved the problem.
