Problems with Ridgid 6 inch joiner
I just purchased the 6 inch Ridgid joiner at a home Depot and after working several hours to get it set up, I had a part break. The yoke that sits astride the Adjustment wheel for the outfeed table snapped as I was adjusting the outfeed table as part of the setup process. Had the instruction manual been better, I probably would have seen this possibility before it ocurred. I am not sure if I want to disassemble the joiner and take it back or simply call Ridgid and ask for a replacement part. Any comments from anyone who has dealt with Ridgid before would be appreciated.

I'm not sure what the "yoke" is, or how you broke it. Can you give details?
Mike
Thanks for writing. The yoke was a part that connected two bolts on either side of the outfeed table adjustment screw on the topside of the screw. As I see it, it provided the resistance necessary for the screw to be used to adjust the outfeed table. My jointer must have had a problem with the yoke because as I turned the screw to adjust the outfeed table, the yoke broke. Anyway, Home Dept said they would replace it.
Did you forget to loosen the gib screws?
Mike
Did you forget to loosen the gib screws?I have a RIDGID 6 inch planer.. I'll have to look.. I never had to adjust anything (YET)..I use to repair Brown & Sharp machines.. I never had to loosen any gib screws.. Usually tighten em! My opinion only.. Gibs SHOULD NOT BE THAT TIGHT!
I have a 6" ridgid and had no trouble assembling it and using it as far as warranty it is guaranteed aagainst defects in material and workmanship not owner screwups I found the manual no trouble to follow.
The problems I encountered with some of their other products i resolved with the tool dept manager or when all else failed i got a hold of the store manager (home depot)
I have several Rdgid tools and the only problem was missing parts in the spacer for their bandsaw, a phone call to their 1-800 number was all it took to have a whole new kit couriered to me in about 4 days. Not bad from the south to Canada.
H D can afford to replace it,and if the next one is not to your satisfaction get that one replaced, and if your still not happy with it get your money back.good luck Pete.
