I have been working with sketchup 6 for quite a while, I am no expert but better than beginner level.
I just started using version 7 and am having some difficulties with it. It has to be something in the settings but i cant see where to fix it. Ill just list them off.
1. When i try to make a square they always come out not square. I start making it then in the length box i enter in numbers to make it square like ~ 6″, ~ 6″ but its definitely not square.
2. The length box is to exact, Some of you might need to be down to the 64th but I dont, Is there a way to set it to a 32nd?
Thanks for any help

Are you actually typing the dimensions into the Measurements box or just dragging the square out and trying to get it close?
You can adjust the Precision under Window>Model Info Units. I'm guessing that if you don't already have it set to 1/64" if you're getting values with a ~ symbol preceding them. No matter what you have the Precision set to, if you enter 6,6 in the Measurements box, you'll end up with a 6 x 6 square. You can also see that you are dragging out a proper square because you'll get a diagonal dotted line across it while dragging.
None of this stuff has changed from version 6. In fact none of that has changed from version 3. What has likely changed however is your starting template.
If you'd like, I'll give you a hand with this via e-mail. Send me an e-mail and we'll make arrangements to have a look.

Ok got the 64th thing figured out,
I also think i figured out the dimensions thing there are these "~"" symbols in it. So if i enter it in as ~ 7", ~ 7" it actually comes out to 7x10 1/2 Ill hit you up with my email all the help i can get is good. Thanks
You're not supposed to enter the tilde. That is SketchUp's way of telling you that the dimension is close to but not exactly the dimension it is displaying. For example, if you have Precision set to 1/16" and you see ~7", the actual dimension is something between 6 31/32 and 7 1/32 inches. The ~ indicates the displayed dimension is approximate.
Got your e-mail and I'll e-mail you back.
Try Going to the SIELECT TEMPET, click Wood Working inch.
then wen you drag out a rectangel, stop, donot click mouse,
enter your diementions for SQ, 4",4"
OK WT.

I can't get the dimension thing to work. It wants to give me some sort of default or just don't work. Am I not holding my tounge right? But each time I try something seems to get a tad easier, but the dimension thing is distracting.
Shoemaker, I sent you an e-mail. Let's see if we can get things worked out for you.
HI,
I have downloaded the latest Sketchup and it works fine the first time I use it. On the second time in, I no longer see the axis, standing man, or any of the things that are drawn. Downloaded it again and same thing. It's almost like a setting where the foreground and background colors are the same. I am running Vista so that could be related. Does anyone have any ideas?thanks,Stevo
Could be an OpenGL setting problem. First thing I'd do is experiment with the OpenGL settings under Window>Preferences>OpenGL. Specifically try changing Use Hardware Acceleration and/or Use Fast Feedback. Try changing them one at a time. Hit OK after doing so and see what you get. If that doesn't get you anywhere, try updating your video driver. As I recall, Vista doesn't directly support OpenGL and evidently this forced the graphics card folks to write drivers for Vista that emulate OpenGL. The Google SketchUp folks also recommend that your graphics card contain an nVidia chipset. If you have integrated graphics you may be somewhat limited when it comes to larger models.Hopefully that helps.Dave
Dave, You are a genius. I am not sure what all that stuff meant, but unchecking the first setting (Hardware Acceleration) you mentioned solved it for good.
thank you !!!!!

Too bad I have to make it on my good looks. I'd be a rich man if I could live off my genius. LOL Just kidding. (Why don't we have smilies on this forum?)I'm glad that worked out for you even if it didn't make a lot of sense. Now get busy drawing. ;)Dave
