I’m in the process of trying to build an exact replica of a Stickley Cocktail table. The only dimensions I have are as follows: 40” w X 40” d X 20” h. With the 40” round top, I need help in determining the correct width of the vertical table legs. To add to the concern is the inlay which I hope to order once the width of the four legs is determined.
I will try to attach a picture I’m working from so as to help.
I sincerely appreciate any input you might be able to provide.
Thank You!

What I do is make a ratio. Use dividers, set them to the width of the top in the picture. Use some small ruler, maybe mm.
Let's say it's 32mm. Then set the dividers to the width of the leg. Let's say that measures 5mm.
The top is 40 inches. That gives you:
32 5
___ = ___
40 Y
Cross multiply. 32 x Y = 5 x 40
32 Y = 200
Y = 6.25"
That's not your dimensions. Just a ferinstance.
That's how I do all my figuring from photographs. I always draw it out on graph paper after, to make sure I like the proportions.
Thank you John! I’ll run the numbers as you suggest. I really appreciate your help. One question though, if I may with respect to C2. Are you also an owner of a second generation Corvette?
No. I did one own a vette. A 1972 Chevette.
When you see the “C2” designation, it can often refers to the 1963 - 1967 Corvettes or second generation. Just thought you might be a proud owner.
I did have a Silver 72 but that was years ago. I now have a 66 Coupe.
Thanks for responding and the very best to you & yours!
Frank
John c2 has the right idea, but to be more accurate, you should use the 20" height of the table as it is in the same plane as the width of the leg. The 40" width of the table is farther back in the photo, and the perspective (from the camera lens being essentially a single point) will mess up the accuracy.
Correct.
Thank you for your suggestion to utilize the 20” height in the equation. That will definitely aid my effort to hopefully produce a respectful reproduction.
