Most of you know me, I’m a hopeless wood addict, well I’m trying to refrain from buying this stuff so maybe if you could give me a reason not to….
Went to my favorite sawmill to pick up the 18 foot long 4/4 hard maple that I’m gonna use for flooring, and pick up the 5/4 ash that I got for my sister.
Well of course they had to tell me about the 6000 bd. ft. of 6/4 ash 8″6″ long that I can get for 15 cents a bd. ft.
Now sheetrock is selling for over 40 cents a bd. ft. so I understand how cheap this stuff is and of course it’s got me salavating.
I looked and some of it I’d grade as FAS, a lot is #1’s, and some is #2’s, with about 20% being #3’s. It’s green rough and at the mill so it’s not exactly like going to Home Depot but Jeezzz whata price!
Anybody want to take it home so I don’t? Can anybody stop me please?

Frenchy, You must be in big ash country, Get it while you can, Good ash is hard to find!
*Wow; Same wood here would cost $5.20 bd ft. I say buy!!! ;)
*Are you crazy!!!! BUY BUY BUY...Tell your wife it is an investment.
frenchy. there will always be deals, and you have i think you have enough wood to last you a lifetime. if you didn't have the amount of wood that you do then i would say go for it though.
some people spend all their money on tools and have no money left for wood, while others spend all their money on wood an have none left for tools. i'd be interested, but i don't have space for that much wood, or a use for that much either, plus it wouldn't be as good a deal after i paid shipping and all the duties to get it into canada.
you know, there's a company that i was talking to a while ago that sold european beech. i could have bought select beech that was surfaced all four sides and kiln dried for around 70 cents US. the only catch was that i had to buy an entire shipping container, which was around 30 000 bf. i wish i could take advantage of every deal i see, but you have to draw the line somewhere. also, 70 cents bf is nothing until you add up the total. don't worry, you can get over this.
Dear Frenchy,
Where is this sawmil?
I live in Cornwall, Ontario, anyone know of any deals in my neck of the woods?
