I have recently built a series of pull out drawers for the kitchen pantry. I want to paint them white to match the existing interior of the pantry itself but I also want the finish to be durable and smooth. Any ideas on what kind of paint or finish to use? The drawers are made out of cabinet grade ply.

Don't understand if you want to paint just the outside, or the inside too. Wouldn't paint the inside, as any paint will mark and chip with cans and bottles scraping across them.
I use Sherwin-Williams Pro Classic Acrylic. Sprays and brushes very well, and dries without blocking problems.
For the interiors, I'd use a water based lacquer or conversion varnish as these are much tougher than pigmented acrylic. You can dye these white if you want too, but white will show up every mark. If you do paint the shelves, put down some clear shelf liner. There's some with ridges that comes in a roll 2'wide and is really tough.
Thanks guys,
I have a starting point now. Nothing worse than painting something and then having the paint stick to everything you put on it. I think I'll do some experimenting first with the higher quality products. Thanks again for taking the time.
You probably know this, but for this application stick with oil-base paint. It' harder and it won't come off on things that sit on it. I learned the hard way with some bookshelves a while back...
use the brilliant enamel from finepaints.com
It's a marine grade gloss oil enamel.
Love it an it lastss forever,
Mike
