Purcase dust collector – Penn State Ind.
Hello, I have been ” shopping dust collectors for the past 6 months. Looking for the right unit aTt the right price. I think I finnaly found the best collector for me.
It’s the Penn State Ind. #DC1BLX-CF. It’s a 1 HP unit fitted with 1/2 micron canister filter and clear disposal bag (15 included) underneath’ for $270 plus $44 UPS shipping.
This collector seems to meet my criteria. I will be using it in my “garage shop” and will only be using it on one machine at a time. I Intend to eventually move it into an adjasent shed and run the ductwork and return air flow through the wall, but in the meantime roll it to the various machines. Even when I do move it to the shed it will be a short run probably no more than 15 feet of flex pipe. The two key features for me are price and the fact that it has the 1/2 micron canister filter. I could get the same collector with two 1 micron bags for $70 less but… I can’t belive that most companies only offer the 5 and 30 micron bags as standard and charge extra for a decent bag/filter.
Does anybody have any feedback on this unit? I have seen reviews of all the other more popular collectors but never any thing about the Penn State Ind. unit.
Thanx much in advance for your input. You can view the item at www.pennstateind.com

Jake,
No feedback on that particular dust collector. However, I've learned that flexible ductwork degrades performance remarkably. FWIW, I strongly recommend you use smooth-walled ductwork wherever possible, using the shortest possible lengths of flexible ducting. I've connected short sections of smooth-walled steel duct to each of my machines, and used the shortest possible lengths of flex-duct to link the collector to each machine.
Good luck,

Whether you think you can, or you think you can't, you're right.
I'm sure you'll get some good technical advice on your choice. For those who want to go directly to the machine, click here.
You state will "eventually move it into an adjasent shed and run the ductwork and return air flow through the wall" I have my doubts it will provide satisfactory collection if you run a bunch of ductwork to it.
What type of table saw will it be hooked up to? Will you need a double-run of hose on it? (up to the guard and down to the base)
