Purchase a biscuit joiner or biscuit cutter set for my router??
I have an application where my Kreg pocket hole system will not work because I need to join to pieces of wood cut at a 45 degree angle – I do not want end grain showing. There are two ways I can accomplish this is either purchase a biscuit joiner (looking at the Porter-Cable 557) or a biscuit cutter set for my router.

Everyone should have at least one ;-)
The difference is in the control, which translates into safety. Although one can purchase slot-cutting bits for the router, the biscuit joiner is made for that purpose.
The real question is whether a biscuit will do what you really want, or if a spline is a better choice.
why not spline
Why not just cut a vertical 90 with the TS after you cut your 45's and put a spline in the joint. I mean you don't gain any bennefit from the biscuit. It's only good for alignment anyway. You don'y have to buy anything. (assumeing you have a TS)
