Hi Guys,
This last week I cut up 70 sheets of melamine for a cabinet project that I’m working on. In order to put a rabbit on one edge to accept the back panel, I put the panels through my router table using my powerfeed. But because melamine is so slick the wheels didn’t grip very well. Are there wheels made especially for melamine? Anyone have a source?
Thanks for your help.

Geez, Kim- 70 sheets? Better you than me, that stuff is almost as heavy as MDF.
I've never heard of a tire specifically for Melamine, but after you clean the tires with solvent, you might try roughing them up a little with some sandpaper, and re-wax your table top. I've even heard of guys using corn meal(I think) like on a shuffle board.
Good to see your still around here. Try http://www.westernroller.com. Did you purchase a slider or just borrow the use of one ( Woodshop News )? How many blades did you go through for 70 sheets? On a typical kitchen job I can get about 20-24 sheets of 5/8" HD partical board using FS Tool XL 4000 blades on a Unisaw ( no scoring ) before chipping.

Hi Dave^2,
You guys know this Panolam product? It’s melamine, but it comes in a bunch of different finishes. These are display cabinets for a wine store and they chose maple ply. But I convinced them that a “maple Panolam” would meet there needs better – easier to clean, no finishing, etc. It looks like “maple.”
Thanks for the info. I’ll check out Western Roller for my next project.
My shopmate bought a Martin slider that I rent time on. And I have another friend upstairs that I rented time on his beam saw to do the ripping. We went through two blades – one on each. (An expense that I forgot to budget for!) I’m not too concerned with the chipping, though. I only need one good side. The two bad sides get butted together and are not seen.
Thanks for your help.

DJ: I put the Western Roller link in my list of favorites, thanks.
FYI: When you type out a link, even if it's at the end of a sentence, don't put a period after it. <g>forestgirl -- you can take the girl out of the forest, but you can't take the forest out of the girl ;-)
