Anyone know of any good books on cooperage.I’m interested in white cooperage mainly, however, barrel cooperage is also good.
Is is possible to learn cooperage through a book like one can learn other woodworking tasks?I kinda doubt it,due to the complexity, but thought I’d ask anyway. Thanks tons in advance,Roland.

Someone was asking about this a couple or more months ago. Doesn't seem to be a wealth of information out there.
Ahh! Here's the thread. There's some good info starting at #11 in the thread.

Roly.... Try contacting Colonial Williamsburg, Williamsburg VA or Old Sturbridge Village Restoration, Sturbridge MA. Both of these restorations have coopers. Someone should be able to direct you to books or sources of materials. Perhaps there is a restoration village near you that can be of help.

what is the difference between white and barrel cooperage? was in awe watching the coopers on a segment of this old house - in nappa valley.
White cooperage deals with a higher grade of containers;those that can contain liquids in addition to dry goods.I presume a whiskey keg would be defined as white goods also though the name, white goods, originally came from milk barrels.
Thanks everyone for their help.Roland.
Hello Roly,
there is one book available on cooperage, primarily on the history and tools, with some description of techniques. The title escapes me at the moment, but it is published by Linden, so you may wish to check them out on the web.
