Question about tool motor/electronics?
I have a Panasonic 15.6V drill/driver that I use carefully and not that much. It’s only about a year old.
My 12 year old daughter has a school project and i let her use it un-supervised. She used it to drill some small dia holes and drive some screws.
When I use it now, it smells like some wiring is melting/burning. I’m not pushing it at all and it stinks every time I use it.
What did she do? Did she sit there with the trigger half pulled and the motor stalled?
And is there anything I can do? I spent extra on this tool and would like for it to last a while.

Dear Manchild:
I am by no means an expert, but I have a Panasonic 12v drill that has exactly the same smell to it. I purchased it (new) in 1999, and it has been running fine with the smell ever since. Some days I notice it much more than other days. Use does not seem to matter--sometimes when I am using it hard, there is almost no smell. Other days, the smell is more intense even though I have used it only lightly. I would not worry too much about the smell. If the drill is smoking or overheating, that would indicate a problem. If in doubt, I would call Panasonic. They may have some more enlightened advice.

there was a discussion over at Breaktime regarding Panasonic, near the end, a recall of batteries similar to yours was talked about..... here is that thread ......63186.1.
