Question about woodtek and grizzly. Pls help
I have a woodtek sp-20 from 1993. I’m trying to get a spiral cutterhead for it and I’m having trouble finding one. I got to looking at the grizzly g0455 and it looks exactly the same and I got a measure drawing of the grizzly and the diameter of the cutterhead is the same as my woodtek. But I really don’t want to take my woodtek apart to find out the other dementions of the cutterhead now as im in the middle of a job. Does anybody know if the grizzly and the woodtek are the same planer?
Like same cutterhead dementions?
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

On the official Byrd tool website:
https://byrdtoolexperts.com/product/shelix-cutterhead-for-woodtech-20-planer
They list a shelix head for a 20 inch WOODTECH planer. I think that may be a typo and they meant WOODTEK.
You might check with them. I bought a Byrd Shelix head for my jointer and have been happy.
Also, there may be some confusion on the Grizzly model number you posted. It appears to be a jointer not a planer.

I'm sorry I meant grizzly g0544
I wouldn't guess. Too many horrible things can happen. Contact the manufacturer of the new cutter head and give them your model, and see if they make a cutter head for your specific planer.
Oh I meant G0544
I am upgrading my 1993 SP20 the heical cutter-head today and saw your question.
I called Byrd tech support and they sent me the drawing for the SP20.

FYI-The cutter-head cost$1464.00.
I tried to send you the drawing but it was too large…
Do you know where I can get a copy of the owners/part manual?
Hope this helps.
For what it's worth, I bought a Byrd Shelix cutterhead and upgraded a Robland 12" jointer-planer in about 2004. The price was about $1,200. $1400 doesn't seem excessive considering the time factor and yours is 20".
I was very happy with it.
I was able to get the print of the cutter head for your SP20 to upload to this forum.

Brian at Holbren is also very helpful in matching things up. The cost of insert heads is often shocking to folks just looking into them. If the number scares you just read some of the articles comparing use-cost over time.
My spiral jointer has saved me money since the 18 month mark and continues to do so. My planer likewise. By now I am so far ahead I think I could almost buy them again at no additional cost compared to my previous schedule of sharpening and replacing knives. The math don't lie ;-)
Updated:
The price for the SP20 cutter head with inserts is $$1360.00.
I had to send in both pulleys to Byrd for proper fit.
The big shocker,,,, The lead time is 6 months…😵
That’s a long time to have a big machine out of service.
