Question re “stout” blades and old plane
I’ve been working a tough piece of wood (angelique, you may remember) which takes the edge of a plane blade PDQ. My newer “loaner” plane has an 8/32″ mouth, but my old No 7 has only a 5/32″ mouth. Will the “stouter” (I’m not certain of the additional thickness) blades work OK with the 5/32″ mouth? Thanks.

Ed if you tried the thicker iron and it was to tight you could open the mouth up with a file . Jerry
LOL, Jerry, if it was my "loaner" plane, maybe, but I can't bring myself to filing the mouth on this, admittedly just a user" plane.
I did check in on Hock's website, but didn't note anything in particular there, so I will call them. Thanks for the suggestion Ed (from Mississippi)
Ed,
I was poking around the Hock Tools website, thinking about upgrading some of my plane irons with cryo A-2 irons and the new chipbreakers, and I got the impression from my reading that they selected 1/8" max thickness for their plane irons to ensure compatibility with all of the old Bailey-style bench planes. You could call them and discuss it - I think there's an 800 number on their website, http://www.hocktools.com
